É também nesta freguesia que se situa o Autódromo Internacional do Algarve. Situa-se numa zona de campo, a cerca de 6 km a norte do centro da freguesia. O acesso faz-se a partir duma variante da EN125. É servida por uma estação na Linha do Algarve.
A Mexilhoeira Grande é uma povoação bastante antiga, cuja origem poderá remontar ao prolongamento dos povoados do Neolítico e do Calcolítico de Monte Canelas e Alcalar.
A instituição da freguesia parece remontar o século XVI, altura em que foi edificada a actual igreja matriz. Por volta de 1446, já deveria ser uma povoação de certa importância pois, segundo o
cronista Gomes de Zurara, o Infante D. Henrique encontrava-se aqui nesta data.

Nördlich von Portimão gelegen, mexilhoeira Grande, ein ländliches Land mit weißen Böden, getreten von Gassen, hat in traditionellem Handwerk und Landwirtschaft die Hauptaktivitäten seiner Menschen.
In dieser Gemeinde befindet sich auch die Internationale Rennstrecke der Algarve. Es befindet sich in einem Feldgebiet, etwa 6 km nördlich des Zentrums der Gemeinde. Der Zugriff erfolgt über eine Variante der EN125. Es wird von einer Station der Algarve-Linie bedient.
Mexilhoeira Grande ist ein sehr altes Dorf, dessen Ursprung auf die Erweiterung der neolithischen und chalkolithischen Dörfer Monte Canelas und Alcalar zurückgehen kann.
Die Institution der Pfarrei scheint das sechzehnte Jahrhundert wieder aufzubauen, als die heutige Mutterkirche gebaut wurde. Bis 1446 sollte es bereits eine Siedlung von einiger Bedeutung sein, denn nach der
Chronist Gomes de Zurara, InfantE D. Henrique war an diesem Tag hier.
