It confronts Tresouras to the north and east; to the south, with Frende; and to the east with Santa Marinha do Zêzere, From the top of the neighboring town of Tresouras, it is possible to obtain a wide panoramic view of Loivos da Ribeira, which occupies the lower part of the valley, open and sprawling. The patronage of the Church of Loivos da Ribeira belonged to the morgue of the Capela do Senhor das Chagas, which belonged to the Casa do Paço. The patronage later passed to Casa de Távora, who had their coat of arms carved over the Chapel's arch. This coat of arms, like all those that belonged to that family, was destroyed following the Távoras Process. The inquiries from 1258 bring what appears to be, to date, the oldest reference to Loivos da Ribeira 'Samcte Marie de Lobos' (Inq. 1165 Cfr. 1193). In 1320, in the List of Churches in the White Book of the Cathedral of Coimbra (Cfr. H III. 622), it appears as 'Ecclesiam de Louhos'. In a manuscript from the Vatican Apostolic Library (Collect 179.126) dated 131, it appears as 'Ecclesia de Lauhas'. A reference from 1530 (Archivo Histórico Portuguez; VII. 246) is interesting, which reads as follows: 'Logar d'Arrufe is in the parish of Darvys da Ribeira'. The place of Arufe still exists today.
