The Portimão Museum is housed in a restored 19th-century canning factory with exhibits on local history. The Gothic-style church of Our Lady of Conception has tiles. To the south is Praia da Rocha, with ochre cliffs as a backdrop and the medieval fort of Santa Catarina de Ribamar. In recent years, the mouth of the Arade River has been the scene of major events.
