Until this date he was under the command of the Bishop of Silves who had received it by donation from the King of Castile. Lagos is very important in 1415, during the reign of King John I, due to the Portuguese Discoveries. Infante D. Henrique lived in Lagos, in the castle, then Palácio dos Governadores, and which was also destroyed by the earthquake of 1755.
